After
a three-year hitch in the Marine Corps, he returned to San Antonio
and shortly thereafter embarked on a 26 year law enforcement career
on the State and Federal levels. During those years he worked on ranches
whenever the opportunity arose. In the l970's he bred and raised Santa
Gertrudis cattle in the Cotulla, Texas area.
In 1978, while cleaning out closets, he discovered some Play-Doh left
behind by his then adult children. In l983, intrigued with his first
efforts at sculpting, and realizing his need for more knowledge, he
enrolled in three one-week classes at the Cowboy Artists of America
Museum in Kerrville, Texas. From that time on, his desire was to study
anatomy and improve with each succeeding work.
After his retirement in 1986, he decided to pursue a career as a scuptor
of the cowboy life he had always loved. His lifetime association with
horses, cattle and "cow people" is apparent in his work. In the past
he was represented by galleries in Wyoming, New Mexico, New York and
Texas. At the present he represents himself at requested private and
public showings. For the past ten years he has shown at the Amon Carter
Exhibit Hall during the annual National Cutting Horse Futurity in
Fort Worth, Texas.
